#Kenya28Feb: Doing Something Different for a Change

It is that time of the year again. Last year, February 28th at 1pm hundreds of thousands of Kenyans stood up to sing the national anthem at different locations all to signify the unity this country needs. I was in Mombasa, specifically at Nakumatt Nyali and while it might have been just another usual day, taking those two minutes to sing the national anthem together with the rest of the country made me feel a sense of belonging and pride and more so attachment to my country, beloved Kenya.

This year, it is bound to be even bigger with more Kenyans on social media than last year, this being an initiative totally driven by social medians in Kenya. More so, being an election year, Kenyans need to demonstrate that unity more than ever. The agenda is quite simple. Get the country to sing the national anthem in unison, reminding them of the commitment and covenant that is the lyrics of our national anthem. It is a bond that cuts across our ethnic backgrounds, cultures, geographical locations and brings us together as Kenyans. As a nation that shares national values and truly depends on God above for all.

I would like to take a moment to request you wherever you might be, in or out of Kenya to unite with all other Kenyans and let us together sing the national anthem on Feb 28th at 1pm, (GMT+3).  Find out more details at the official #Kenya28Feb website and let us stand for Kenya.

They say that a journey of a billion light years commences with a single step! Dave, all revolutions do have a very innocuous and nondescript genesis but they do end up strutting like a Colossus in the scene! Think of the Boston Tea Party, The Salt March, The Bolsheviks, War of Roses, Invasion of Bastille, Sharpeville Massacre…..the list is endless. But suffice to say that we do have to start somewhere!

I do hope and pray that even if we starting small, the True Kenyan Second Republic shall dawn within our lifetimes. But even if not, still it will be Ok if I leave behind a Kenya that is a proud nation worthy to be bequeathed upon our grandchildren and great grand children.
I hope…nay I know that one day these demons of tribalism, impunity, blatant sycophancy that bedevil our beautiful republic shall one day be exorcist! Be it today, tomorrow, next year, next decade, next century, next Millennium. All shall come to an end! That you can take to Equity! All that matters is that we start somewhere!

So yes Dave, I will do my small part, my one-in-a-trillion innocuous part: I will stand and sing the national anthem, for Providence Himself knows just how much I really do love this Republic.

I will contribute my small part to ensure that my grandchildren and great great great grandchildren inherit a country where peace, natural justice and fairness reigns supreme. I will sing the anthem just to express my gratification to Providence for granting me the blessing to have called this country my Provenance.

    I will sing the anthem!
