While politics is a game that is centered on building supremacy of specific individuals, the cost at which it is played sometimes has not regard for the citizens that put these individuals into power. Hypocritical ODM has only proved it’s leadership that is built around the self actualization of Hon. Raila Odinga and his quest for supreme power.
In my recent post on the Kamukunji by-election, I pointed out that ODM needs to have a true description of democracy and stop confusing it for layalty to Raila.
The Webster for for dictionary defines dictatorship as “a form of government in which absolute power is concentrated in a dictator or a small clique”. Raila and his loyalists have redefined this as democracy and in the same camp, rebellion that works in favor of the leadership has been viewed as a fight for reforms. History shows us that Raila Odinga is not the kind of a leader who settles for nothing but self worship and public exaltation that he has enjoyed being MP for a constituency whose most voters are from Africa’s largest urban slum.
When Raila could not be picked as a presidential candidate for Ford Kenya, he rebelled and decamped to NDP which he later sold to Moi for a ministerial post and hope of being anointed as Moi’s successor. This was not to be the case and when Moi appointed Uhuru Kenyatta as his preferred successor, Odinga felt his ego had been stepped on and moved yet again to join LDP. I could go on and on to the point where the infamous MOU was another shake up in Raila’s fight for leadership which to me was a selfish agreement to share Kenya and it’s governance between individuals without me necessarily honoring the mandate granted by the electorate.
My point is simple, Raila wants total loyalty while he is loyal to none. Someone tell me what or who Raila is loyal to. While a lot of ODM damu fanatics believe that Raila is a God sent saviour and reformist, I see him as a big opportunist who knows his PR games too well and has mastered the art of voter brainwash. I say this again with all due respect, can someone tell me of any development in his constituency since he became MP?
Yesterday’s cabinet reshuffle goes further to prove my point. Let’s look at Ruto and Kosgey. Both have rebelled against Odinga, both are facing charges at the ICC and both were suspended from their ministerial posts. We all know that Ruto was cleared from the charges that led to his suspension but even after writing to the president about it, he still lost his job. On the other hand, rebellious Kosgey was untouched in the reshuffle. Why? He is the party chairman and that would stir more controversy within the already crumbling ODM.
Nomination or not, Raila will again be the supreme presidential candidate for the orange party. Democracy means nothing here and disagreement with RAO is undemocratic and ends in woes. I repeat ODM needs to change it’s political strategy. They need to redefine democracy and what it stands for.
While it may be a strong party, ignore simple facts and it will end up like Ford Asili that lost popularity seriously after being on the rooftop.
